The Superintendent  of Police of Andaman district is functioning as Regional Transport Officer for Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The Andaman and Nicobar Police is carrying out this function for the last 35 years. The Motor Vehicle Section is located in the premises of the Office of Superintendent of Police, Andaman.

B.    Issue of Licence:-

  1. There are approximately 40,256 vehicles registered in A & N Islands.

  2. The data of the registration of vehicles are computerized. 

  3. The computerized certificate of Registration are being issued w.e.f. May 2002.

  4. Test for issue of Learner's Licence of each class of vehicles are held on every Friday in Motor Vehicle Section by Inspector Motor Vehicle.

  5. Test for issue of Driving Licence of each class of vehicles i.e. two wheelers, three wheelers, light motor vehicles and heavy motor vehicles etc. is conducted every Saturday Deputy Superintendent of Police, Motor Vehicle Section.

  6. The computerised plastic card driving license are being issued w.e.f. June 2002.

Guidelines for Number plates on motor vehicles 

  1.  In the case of Transport Vehicles, the Registration Mark will be written in black colour on yellow background. (w.e.f. 1/2/02)

  2.  In the case of other vehicles, the Registration Mark will be written in black colour on white background.

  3.  All the letters of the Registration mark shall be in English and the figures shall be in Arabic numerals. and edge of the surface shall be under as follows (Rule 51 CMVR)
