Ø Island
Police Radio came into existence during the third quarter of 1946 with 3 land
stations (South Andaman, Car Nicobar, Long Island) and 6
mobile (on board vessel) stations.
Ø Today Island Police Radio has 20 HF static station (16 are provided with
“BEST” equipment) and 180 VHF static/mobile station.
Ø These stations are life line of the Islands.
Ø It provides a full proof & reliable communication service around the clock,
even in far flung & scattered Islands.
Ø Island Police Radio helps Post & Telegraph Department and handles telegrams
from 16 locations since 1953 along with Police and Administration messages

data from 5 stations spread over the Islands, i.e.

POLNET
:
Police Telecommunication
network is a satellite based integrated network
for providing
connectivity amongst the State/UT/Capitals/District HQ and Police Stations of
the country.
In
the first phase POLNET Stations have been installed at
Port Blair, Car Nicobar & Campbell Bay during September, 2004. Another POLNET Station
was established
at Nancowry during January, 2005 due to Tsunami. In the second phase POLNET stations have been installed at Hut Bay, Katchal and
Teressa during Jan. 2006.
